I have always been a running purist. Perhaps it’s because I grew up running at a time when there were no cell phones, iPods, apps, heart rate monitors, or GPS sports watches. Indeed, I wore cotton (aghast!) T-shirts and socks to run when I was in middle school, high school, and college.
Boy, have things changed.
I’ve given up cotton shirts and have been trying out the Moto 360 Sport watch lately to challenge my running purism. This watch does everything except serve you chocolate milk after your long run. It includes GPS, heart rate monitor, speed, and pace. It syncs with your Android phone so you can receive emails, texts, and calendar notices on your watch when you run. It even tells you when someone likes or comments on one of your Facebook posts.
Personally, I don’t really want to know when someone texts me or likes my Facebook posts while I’m outside running. But for those people who do, and who like to interact with the world around them to enhance their running experience, the watch is great since it’s basically like having your phone with you when you run without having your phone with you when you run.
Some of the awesome characteristics of the MOTO 360 Sport:
* Moto 360 Sport gives you everything you need for your run—without the need for your phone. The Moto 360 Sport gives you built-in GPS, a heart rate monitor, and your workout music right on your wrist. After your workout, read your Gmail, check the latest traffic, and receive Facebook updates, all thanks to the power of Android Wear™.
* Built-in GPS works seamlessly with Moto Body to measure your performance. Track distance traveled, pace, lap times, and more.
* With 4 GBs of storage, you can listen to music during your workout without your phone in tow.
* Moto 360 Sport works seamlessly with Android™ fitness apps like MapMyRun, Fitbit, Strava and Under Armour Record to record your workout data and syncs directly with these apps, so your workout history is always up to date.
Continuously track your heart rate during a run to monitor your performance. See beats per minute with just a simple glance at your wrist. And with Moto Body, measure the time you spend in different heart rate zones to make sure you’re achieving your fitness goals.

“This watch does everything except deliver your chocolate milk after a long run” …lol love that line! And I too am relatively a running purist…but this watch looks great!
I run year round but don’t always train for races year round. Although right now I’m 8 months pregnant and running is more like a super short, jog-wobble that barely happens once or twice a week surrounding a long walk. Staying #MOTOvated is a grab-bag for me. Somedays running is an inner meditative thing and I want zero distractions and then somedays I need motivation from being connected to my run buddies online.
